Welp, the Wii is out. Sad, but true. Nintendo plans to replace it next year with whatever new gimmick based console they're releasing. Probably something 3D. Fare thee well, cash in my wallet Revolution, we hardly knew ye.

Yeah If the rumors are true the Wii2 is gonna be a powerful console and not just some gimmick like the Wii. Sure, it'll still have it's silly gimmick controller with a touchscreen on it but it's got HD!

My sources tell me it's going to be some sort of amazing "hey by the way we're Nintendo and we still win at things even thought they aren't contests" machine.

I've gotta say that in the realm of FPSes, which the Wii had STARTLINGLY FEW OF (for good reason, mostly, but still), the Wii remote was really nice. Using it as a sword is what comes more naturally, though. It worked well on its side, too... but hey, if Nintendo wants to revolutionize controllers in a positive fashion this time, that's fine too.

A touch screen on a controller is actually one of the greatest ideas ever, and if you deny it, you're just being blind. The thing about controllers is that they've been the deciding factor for how playable a game is ever since the NES, and developers have had to work with the buttons they have, and none else. There's a ton of games that suffered from having to overload the functions of a few buttons, or rely heavily on your inventory menu, so having a controller that essentially has a customizable button layout makes developing games extremely easy for it.

Unless the controller is the 3DS in which case Nintendo has once again printed money.

Actually, now that I think about it, a touchscreen on the controller means they can finally make that DS adapter they looked into making for the Wii.

Okay, Nintendo, prove me wrong about it being too soon to make a new console.

Maybe you slept through it or something, but the Wii will have been out for six years come next year.

That's the average life of a Nintendo console.

Maybe you haven't realized I'm on a fixed income and can't afford a new console every six years. I only just got a Game Cube less than a year before the Wii came out.

But really, Sony and Microsoft both plan on keeping their consoles out for quite a while longer. Sony even plans to just upgrade the PS3 when needed with a hundred dollar add-on. And all the fans rejoiced. This probably isn't the best way for Nintendo to compete with them.
