All right, so basically, I make the squares or pieces, which are then put together to make different foregrounds? You want it like traditional MM games, side-scrollers? I like to triple check to make sure I've got it down. I suck at spriting and the like, so I might have to take bases from Sprites Inc. and download Paint.NET to make this succesful. Does it matter that I'm using bases for the tilesets, even if it's only to get the hang of it?

What do you mean by "Bases?"

You got the basic ideas.

BACKGROUND:

A single or repeating picture that the player cannot interact with.

MIDDLE GROUND:

The set of objects or "events" that the player can interact with.

FOREGROUND:

Objects or images that overlap the player and cannot be interacted with.


You'll be making tiles for the Middle Ground, and some foreground stuff when necessary.

Types of Bosses and Stages? Y'know, so I don't work real hard on a tileset for a jungle stage or something and it isn't used.

They will.  But I think the first stage should be a base infiltration, so that should be easy enough.  Look at the intro stage to X2, and get some inspiration from that.
