Death Dark's Perilous Journey to Washington

Entry 1 - 11:19 AM EST 16 November 2011
Went to sleep this morning at 2am after showering, playing Skyrim, and washing
clothes that I'd need for the trip. I got a whole 3 hours of sleep before
waking and being rushed to get ready. Once we got to the airport, I realized
we were 20 minutes early -- a delay which would've allowed me to bring some
number of other things with me, such as a phone charger, handheld game system,
a music player, or something of the sort. Failing that, I'm left with my
trusty netbook and a bag of clothes. I also have my toothbrush.
We left on time from Florence Regional Airport. There weren't many people on
the plane, and I shared my seats with no one. Thus, I took the opportunity
to sit by the window and watch the world shrink away. The speed of the take-
off was exhilirating, but quickly killed by the g-forces from the actual lift-
off. The pressure changes and such have been messing with my fragile head,
which is already sensitive due to lack of sleep. Watching the clouds roll away
beneath me for a change was a truly new sight.
Seventeen minutes later, we arrived in Charlotte International Airport. It was
there I realized the difference between Regional, National, and International
airports, unless the naming schemes are less logical than I can analyze at this
moment. This was my first encounter with moving sidewalks. My amusement with
even the simplest technologies is still childlike. I didn't expect so many
restaurants inside of the airport, including three Starbucks, complete with one
customer that grabbed my interest (at least in the first one). I passed a
Burger King, but decided to check further. After going a bit further, I turned
back to order--they were serving breakfast. So, I had an 8 inch pepperoni
pizza from Papa John's and some breadsticks. For breakfast.
Like the single man I am, I browsed the crowds quite a bit, though there wasn't
much to be had. I ate my food and boarded the plane. The woman who bought the
tickets got me in on Zone 2, which is the 4th group to board. While I
appreciate the notability, and she probably couldn't help it, since I'm sitting
in an aisle seat, it would've been easiest to get on last. At least there's
free water here. During boarding, a cute wide-eyed artsy girl passed by. Not
sitting by me, of course, as that would imply some luck on my part. Whatever.
I still have a headache as we fly west. I can't sleep as every time I'm almost
dead, something dings or someone coughs, or whathaveyou. Probably for the best
as I'd start snoring or drooling, and just making a fool of myself as I slept.
It'd be worth it regardless. I'm not sure if we're in a different time-zone
yet, but the trip is supposed to take 5 hours. It's been about 2 at the time
I started this entry, leaving 3 and some change to go. So far so bland. The
coud cover has given up a bit, so the otuside isn't boring. Nothing really to
do, though, with no internet.
I'll try to get some sleep or play a game on my computer or maybe write a
program, in order of descending probability.

I wasn't able to sleep, though I ended up listening to music instead. Started
with Deadmau5, went to some Japanese rock, and ended up with Owl City just to
listen to "Hello Seattle" as I landed. Guess what. It was raining.
Got off the plane all right and used the restroom. I saw the d'aww girl a few
more times, but ultimately lost track of her. For the better, I guess. Found
my sister, and we set off to KFC for lunch.
Apparently, Seattle is the birthplace of Starbucks, which means it's hipster
central, and I could tell by the people walking around. I'm a sucker for the
look, though. Then again, this is coming from the guy writing a journal about
his trip. Apparently, I'm also the only person in this part of Washington not
wearing a coat. It's only 38 F.
Layla, my niece, likes eating stuff off the floor. In about 15 years, I'm
going to have fun telling Layla's friends about what she ate as a child.
All around, the weather is dreary, and pretty much the only birds are crows.
I like it here.

I'm surprised Mr. 35 hasn't commented on any of this.

I've been reading, I just haven't had much more to say than, "Airports suck," but that had already been established.
