Wii U is gonna need gamecube controller support before I'm fully behind it.
And gamecube backwards compatibility. No fucking excuses, Nintendo.
None.

That's like saying you want the N64 to have NES compatibility.

It could have and should have.
Are you saying that there's anything wrong with a disc based system playing any disc based game the company of the system's origin has made?
PS3 plays PS1 games. If Nintendo can't keep up with Sony's faggotry, what are they doing wrong?

While I do agree with the sentiment, let me point out that the dumbasses at Sony think it's okay that the newer PS3s can't play PS2 games. I honestly have no idea how the fuck they can play PS1 and 3 games, but not PS2.

The reason the original PS3s ($599 USD) were able to play PS2 games was because Sony literally took a PS2 and stuck it inside the PS3 along with all of the PS3 hardware. That shit got expensive. Especially considering how unique the PS2s hardware was to begin with. They were selling at a loss, even with that "ridiculous" price, because of that if I remember correctly.

Logically, you take the PS2 software and recode it to work on the PS3's shit. It's the kind of logic that people put into emulators. Non-professional people.
Now if people with no industry experience can see the intelligence in simply making an emulator (see: homebrew emulators for running on the Wii) that works on the device they want it to run on, why can't people who actually have the power to make things right not be fucking retarded?
Oh right. Because Nintendo is a company so goddamned determined to NOT do things right that they won't even walk over to the money tree and build a fucking tree house in it by releasing NON-ADVERTISED VIRTUAL COPIES of Mother 1 and 2. Of course they aren't going to further the support of one of their best consoles beyond two generations of its time. Is there some sort of communicable stupid cancer that everyone in the video game industry catches? Is there some kind of problem with my logic? Are the virtual console games NOT actually just roms running on an emulator? Please for the love of God don't tell me they were re-coded to work on a different system. Please tell me that actual effort didn't go into producing the virtual console games.
Because if that's the case I don't even want to live on this planet anymore.

I feel like bringing up something about wildly varying data formats, but that shit probably will not fly and would be wrong.

Wildy varying data formats? Download an ISO ripping/burning program. Pop your GCN disc into your computer's DVD drive, run it through the ISO ripper, and take the iso off. For practical purposes, let's say it's Luigi's Mansion.
You now have Luigi's Mansion.ISO on your computer. Then we download Dolphin and run that .ISO on it. This should work like a goddamned charm. I speak from experience, since I personally ripped the Gradius V and Gradius III & IV ISOs from my own discs to play on a PS2 emulator. Needless to say, the ISOs for games like that are pretty big, but while they're on disc, who gives a shit?
If what Nintendo wants to do is resell us games we already own, they're shooting themselves in the foot with a fully loaded hummer mounted turret, because:
A. No one is going to rebuy games they already own. If you do you're either a collector, or a consumer whore. And with virtual copies, you sure as fuck aren't a collector,
I should know
.
B. Gamecube ISOs have got to be like 2 gigs each, right? Those discs could hold that much. Unless the WiiU comes built in with a PC grade Hard Drive, you're gonna fit about 2 GCN games on that thing before you're storing them on your SD cards, and at that point, you might as well be pirating them.
I understand that they need to change the format of the file a bit so that people don't just rampantly pirate shit on their Wii(U). Hell, the process is pretty easily picked apart anyway, so they really shouldn't try as hard as they do. Let's go back to the way the Wii runs virtual console games: They run through a channel as a .wad (or something). Or maybe the channel itself is a .wad. Now if all that channel does is provide a convenient front to make you think it's doing more than simply popping a .NES file into FCEUX, then I'm not really seeing why it's so hard for the disc manager program to assign the size or digital signature or whatever made the Wii differentiate between GCN and Wii games to a GCN emulator, which would take up less than 1gb of internal storage.
Weigh this shit. 2gb of storage taken up per downloaded GCN game, or a system partition of system files and emulators that shows no noticeable detriment to usage as a gaming platform?
