The One Man RPG 2

[Death Dark]

     The girl giggles.  "You just aren't having much luck today, are you?"

[Sepuku.exe]

"I guess not." I get up and carefully pull the sword out of the chair. I set it back on the table and sit down. "Who are you?"

[Death Dark]

     "My name's Emily.  My father owns this inn.  I can't stay and talk, though, I need to get back to work.  It's almost night, you know."

[Sepuku.exe]

"What's so special about the night around here?" I ask. "I don't mean to hold you from your work, but the gatekeeper seems to have been amazed by me spending the night outside of town."

[Death Dark]

     "You spent the night outside of town?  That's amazing!  What was it like?"

[Sepuku.exe]

"I don't know, I don't remember anything prior to waking up this morning."

[Death Dark]

     "Oh...I'm sorry..."

[Sepuku.exe]

"Eh, It's alright. Do you mind if I help you with your work? Your father is letting me stay the night here, but I don't feel quite right with not paying him."

[Death Dark]

     "I don't think he'd appreciate that much; I'm about to start cooking dinner after all.  If you ask him tomorrow, I'm pretty sure that he'll have some sort of job for you to do, or know where you can get one."

[Sepuku.exe]

"Alright, I'll do that... You never answered my question earlier, about the night."

[Death Dark]

     "Oh, I'm sorry!  It's just that, around here...things happen at night.  I've never been told exactly, but that's why the wall is--"

     "Emily!  It's getting late!"

     "Coming, Father!"  She turns to you.  "I'll talk to you later."

     With that, Emily turns an leaves the room.

[Sepuku.exe]

I sit there and let what she said sink in. "That wall must be to keep something out..." I get up and walk to my bed, and lay down. After a while, I fall asleep.

[Death Dark]

     As you sleep, you see the man again.  He just stands there, looking at you, his face hidden in shadow, all except for his eyes.  He adjusts his brimmed hat, and begins to approach you.

     You suddenly wake, for no apparent reason.  There's a tension, an energy, in the air.  The town that seemed so peaceful when you got there now seems to be filled with a silent terror.

     "THEY'VE BREACHED THE WALL!!!" comes the cry from outside.

     "EMILY, GET BACK!" you hear from within the inn.  It seems to be coming from the lobby area.

I pick up my sword and run to the hall, stubbing my toe on the chair on the way out. I hobble to the lobby.

[Death Dark]

     There, in the lobby, you see him.  The man is standing in the doorway.  Over, closer to your side, stands the owner and his daughter.

     The red-eyed man turns silently, and leaves.

     Immediately behind him, a large wolf dashes into the inn.
