SW:TOR is an MMORPG from BioWare, the makers of DragonAge, Jade Empire, and what happened to the makers of KOTOR and The Longest Game Name Ever Elemental (KOTORII).  No sign as to whether there'll be a monthly fee.  If not, I'll probably throw more money at them.

Similar to the WoW factioning, we have the Jedi vs the Sith, but that's to be utterly expected from a Jedi game.  The classes available to each faction have different names, but fill similar roles (Jedi Smuggler versus Sith Bounty Hunter).  The playable races offer interesting choices such as Zabrak (i.e. Darth Maul) and Rattataki (similar to Asajj Ventress), and of course the Twi'lek.  Wookiepedia claims some races are bound to particular sides, and each race only has a few choices of class, but from briefly skimming the official site, there's not much sign of such.

Still waiting on further information.  I'd rather more race choices, such as Togruta, maybe Zeltron, but we'll see.

Apparently, the game features companions -- NPCs that will play alongside you.  In the story-driven game, they intend for these companions to act like your party does in KOTOR/DragonAge, and vary from class to class.  Also, well

Based on your choices, some Companions will become your closest friends, others may become your lovers, and a few may even become your enemies!

Yeah.  Really should've expected that more.  The companions they have listed so far span the normal scope of psychotic bitch to cheery, helfpul girl, strange alien, Wookie, and astromech droid.  Unfortunately, these aren't T3 units, but T7 units instead.

Also, there's to be space combat.  One of the available ships is from the same class as the Ebon Hawk.

I really do not think that this game could be that bad.  First off they are bringing pretty much all the classes from Galaxies on this one.  So you can go around and pretty much be what you would like to be.  Not only that but they are also adding new classes for the Jedi and the Sith as well.  I also think that this game is going to be great because, not to sound like a fag, but this game takes place in an era of star wars history that is really not known.   This takes place, from what I have read before even KOTOR had taken place.  That is like 20000 years before the Empire. Holy shit...but that is just what I remeber reading.  As far as I can tell from the trailers that I have seen it is going to have some kind of story intertwined with the MMO style gameplay. All around I think this will be a good addition to the Star Wars Video Games. And hopefully it will be better than the last two games that have been released.  I am not saying that the Force Unleashed and the Force Unleashed II were bad (especially not the first one) but I think that mistakes will be learned from and that this game, that has been long anticipated, will not let anybody down.

Also, this takes place 300 years after the events portrayed in KOTOR I and II, as mentioned in the FAQ:

Given that it is approximately 300 years since the events of Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic, many of the characters have passed away. However, their legacy does live on as many of their descendants will be part of Star Wars: The Old Republic. Some droids can last a long time as well.

I would wager the last sentence is referencing HK-47.  The placement puts it some 3500 years before Episode 1, but I know little of this Era myself.  According to Wookipedia, the era is known as the "Cold War," being an era after the Treaty of Coruscant in which tensions are high between the two factions, but they're no longer at war.  They have some small bits, but not much information, which leaves a lot of room for the developers of the game.

Ya i feel you.  I hope that they do something exceptional with the possibilities that they have.  But i looks like it will be another Jedi-Sith War.  But there is nothing wrong with that.  I just hope that they make it more complex, and make it a little more sinister.  I would hate for it to be more than simply the sith wanting to eradicate the jedi and take over the galaxy and rule it in a evil way.  But idk.  All i know is that I will def be getting this game and I am really excited!

From looking at biographies, the Sith themselves have an intricate working of politics within.  As I think Kreia mentioned, the Sith always end up fighting each other.
