Battle Network Speech

Sure, I guess I'll just put this down for the lulz. Someone from a chat that I frequent asked someone to write him a speech for class over the subject "Family". Since I had nothing better to do and I was in a somewhat trolling mood, I offered to write his speech for him. I had no intention of taking this seriously at all, so I just wrote what came to mind. Of course, I had to include some sort of obvious hint that this was all a joke and that I didn't care, so I based it off of Lan from the Battle Network series. Apparently he loved it. Not knowing that the speech was based off of Lan, he went ahead and delivered it for his class. Take a guess what grade he got? An A. I kid you not.
At any rate, here's what I wrote for him in all of 15 minutes. Not the best work in the world, but I certainly got a kick out of it. Enjoy.
The family is the root of America. Without the family, our entire way of life would be destroyed. Our dependency and relationship with each other would be that of the animals who fight and war over each other for their own belongings. The sense of community we have would be diminished, and would degenerate us back to the animals of the earth. Despite this truth, our culture is tearing apart the family setting. With a divorce rate higher than our nation has ever seen, it is obvious that America does not acknowledge the importance of family.
Take my family for example. My dad is a very well renown scientist in the field of computer science. He’s really a great father and is really encouraging to be around, but he’s never at home. He’s always working on his next project to make the net a safer place to be, leaving me and my mom to fend for ourselves. I dare say that I was depressed for the longest time, because although my dad loved me, he was never there. Whether it was a soccer game or an important family event, my dad was never around to support me in my life. My mom fell into alcoholism, although she hid it quite well from everyone. I could tell my dad’s job was slowly destroying her, even if she wouldn’t admit it.
Despite these adverse conditions, my father came through. He brought home a specialized computer program just for me to use for school. It was really a sophisticated piece of software, but I had to use a special device to run it. I was so excited when he walked through the door and handed me my gift, my personal navigator through life. It was at this moment that my life began to change.
In his usual accustomed self, my dad left once again to head back to his highly demanding job. I wasn’t alone, however, since now I had this new program. It was rather strange at first, and it got me to do things I normally wouldn’t have done. My friends all had programs similar to what I had, but there was something about mine that was special. My black friend acted like his was way better than mine, but it didn’t take long for the masterpiece that my program was to shine through and prove itself. It was needless to say that things were going to start changing.
When a group of cyber terrorists began to rear their ugly head, I did everything within my power to stop them using my program. It was a long struggle that went largely unnoticed, but I realized that my program could be used for a force of good. I had defeated the terrorist’s schemes with the help of my friends. It was only a small step in the adventures that my program would take me.
Terrorists after terrorist seem to present themselves to me, some going after my program while others did what they could to ignore it. Even my dad began to spend more of his time and work helping me and my program out, which was extremely encouraging. I’ll never forget the day that my dad told me he was proud of what I was doing for the world. He inspired me to keep pushing and reminding me that he would always be with him through that program. It was like a brother to me, acting as a Hub between me and my family to keep us all united.
All in all, I would not be where I am today if it wasn’t for the program that my dad had made for me. Even in the adverse face of potential divorce, my dad overcame society and reunited our family together. My family isn’t the only one that can push through in such difficult times. Everyone has their own program that they can use to unite their family. The key is looking for it and staying strong, and never wavering from this simple fact: friendship is the greatest power of all.
